MTL is the short version of Montreal, but with everything we love packed inside. A declaration of love to this city that sometimes makes us curse, but that we wouldn’t leave for anything in the world.

Designed by PETITOM for LE CARTEL, this original typeface joins the world of MONTRÉAL SAFARI — Chapter 01, our slightly quirky tribute to Montreal.

To bring it to life, we chose chenille embroidery with a generous relief and a super soft texture. A little retro vibe, a fuzzy effect, and lots of character.

Petitom is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in Montreal. A graduate in graphic design from the Université du Québec à Montréal, he specializes in illustration and 2D animation. Thomas Bertrand served as Art Director at LE CARTEL from 2020 to 2024. He is also the creator of several designs for the brand, including the “HORS SÉRIES”, a collection of humorous pieces combining minimalist drawings with literary quotes. Thomas Bertrand’s artistic evolution is marked by a shift from a vibrant color palette to more restrained tones, emphasizing the expressiveness of the drawing and the impact of the illustration’s message. Often driven by the desire to provoke laughter—and always with the intent to get to the essence—Thomas shapes his visual world with clarity and wit.
